Luisa is currently a machine learning scientist at American Family Mutual Insurance Company. She received her Ph.D. in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the University of Delaware in 2015. Her doctoral dissertation was related to the incorporation of domain knowledge into compressed sensing reconstruction algorithms. After her Ph.D., she held a research position in the Video Analytics Laboratory at the Palo Alto Research Center from October 2014 to June 2016 where she was working on developing deep learning algorithms for healthcare applications.
Her general areas of interest include signal and image processing, deep learning and machine learning. Luisa has published 15 scientific papers on premier journals and international conferences and holds 7 pending patents. She was the recipient of the University of Delaware Graduate Student Fellowship in 2013 and the PARC Exceptional Performance Award in 2015. She also serves on the review board of various conferences and journals, such as IEEE Transactions on Signal Processing, IEEE Transactions on Biomedical Engineering, and the IEEE Journal of Biomedical and Health Informatics. She also serves on the National Science Foundation review panel for the Communications, Circuits, and Sensing Systems (CCSS) program.
